Making CareOnLine talk to you.

If you have poor vision or have difficulty reading you can make your computer read the CareOnLine pages to you by pointing to the text with your mouse. To do this you will first need to download some free software called Browsealoud. This will take about 15 minutes. To download Browsealoud follow this link: Go to Browsealoud (opens new window). You can also find out How to Use Browsealoud.

We have designed CareOnLine to make it as easy to read as possible for the majority of people. We have tested it for 'Bobby' compliance for blind access and tested for reading by people with the three main types of colour blindness and it has passed the tests. However, not everyone will like our choice of text size or the background colours. If you wish to change the text size or background colours follow these instructions.

Change the Text Size on CareOnLine.

If you have difficulty reading the text size you have the option to select two larger text sizes by clicking on the relevant Text size link 'Aa', displayed top left on the CareOnLine website.

Alternatively,

1.  From your browser window, on the top grey menu bar, select View.

2.  A dropdown menu will appear. From this, select Text Size and then select Larger or Largest.

You will see most of the text on the screen increase in size but this does not change the browser settings or increase the size of the icons you select.

Change the Background Colour Scheme on CareOnLine

You may also find it helpful to change the colour scheme to white text on blue background combination.  Click on the 'High Contrast' setting link, displayed top right on the CareOnLine website.  To go back to the standard CareOnLine colour scheme click on the 'Default' setting link.

Alternatively, to change the colours to any other combinations, e.g. yellow text on black background: -

1.  From your browser window, on the top grey menu bar, select Tools.

2.  A dropdown menu will appear. From this, select Internet Options.

3.  A box will appear. Look for the button marked Accessibility in the bottom right of the box and click on it.

4.  A new box will appear.

4.1. Click in the white box Ignore colours specified on web pages.

4.2. When a tick appears in the box click OK to close the box.

5.  In the Internet Options box (which should still be open, if it isn't open it again from the Tools menu on your browser) click the button labelled Colours.

6.  Another box will open.

6.1. Untick the box Use Windows colours.

6.2. Now click on the rectangle next to the word Text and choose a text colour (e.g. yellow).

6.3. Then click the rectangle next to the word Background and choose a background colour (e.g. black).

6.4. Click OK when you have chosen your new Text and Background colours.

Having followed the above guidelines you should find that most pages you visit automatically have large text that is yellow on a black background

NOTE: This will not change the colour of the buttons or graphics on other sites.

These guidelines apply to version 5 of Internet Explorer. In different browsers the menus and buttons may have slightly different labels.

Text Only version
